How a noise in the wall gave me courage to be myself
You would think it would be a no-brainer for an animal communicator to recognize the powerful way animals work with us. Somehow though, I am always surprised when it hits close to home.
A close friend reached out to me for help identifying a strange sound coming from inside her art room wall. She had mentioned the sound to me a couple of times before, but I didn't realize how much it was bothering her. She sent me a recording of it, and I went to work scouring the Internet to identify the sound with little success. A pest control company even came to check it out, but nobody could find the source of the noise. The situation was frustrating and upsetting to my friend. Her art room went from a place where she could relax and be creative, to one that made her feel anxious.
She called to talk about the challenge she was having with this. Usually, I listen and hold space for her to talk through what is bothering her and not offer any of my intuitive stuff.
I often feel like my friends put up with me being an animal communicator, but it didn't occur to me that they might find what I do helpful.
In spite of that feeling, I leaned into the idea that I could be of service in this situation, and decided to ask if she would like me to connect with whatever was in the wall. To my surprise she immediately said “yes.”
I took a few minutes to connect. I heard a series of beeps and some other indications of signaling, followed by a knowing that I was connecting with a bat. I asked what was important for my friend to know, and the bat gave me information about how it liked being around my friend’s energy, and that it also liked the corner of the house it was in because it was warm.
I explained to the bat that the noises were making my friend uncomfortable. The bat assured me that its intention was not to cause anyone distress. Rather it just felt really good to be near her in this space. It explained that her creative energy was particularly upbeat and joyful and free, and that was really pleasant to be around. I told the bat that pest control people were coming back to look for it again and in order for it to be safe, it needed to leave. I made clear that my friend wanted no harm to come to it; however, she was not comfortable with it living inside the wall. I thanked the bat for the conversation and disconnected.
When I relayed this information to my friend I could tell it was challenging for her to hear. She's not a huge fan of bats in general, especially one living in her wall frequently reminding her of its presence. But she is a compassionate person and didn't want the bat to be harmed. She just wanted it to go away and find another place to live. I recommended that she take a minute to express to the bat that she was aware that it was enjoying the comfort of her home, but that she really needed it to leave.
After talking with my friend for a few more minutes, I could feel that something had changed in her tone. I felt a shift in how she was looking at the whole situation. It had never occurred to her that this creature might not be there to harm or scare her, but instead enjoyed being near her.
She was clearly feeling more comfortable by the time we ended our call.
Later that day I received a text from my friend saying that she'd told her husband about my conversation with the bat. He told her that it made perfect sense to him that something would be drawn to her energy. He went on to playfully remind her of her bat admirer throughout the day.
The last I heard, my friend hadn't heard the sound again. I hope the bat found a wonderful new home.

This may seem like a pretty simple story, but there were some really powerful things that happened. Thanks to this bat...
I was able to be helpful to my friend just by doing what comes natural to me.
There is a difference between someone accepting that you do something unusual, and someone really believing in what you do. It felt great to be able to help my friend with something that was bothering her. It was clear that the shift in her energy and perspective gave her the opportunity to move beyond the stress she'd been feeling, into a place of compassion and understanding for the animal and the situation.
I felt acceptance when I was just showing up being my authentic self.
Even though I know my friends are always supportive of me, part of me always assumes they think it's weird that I communicate with animals. My friend’s desire for my help with this situation felt great. And her husband didn't seem fazed by the fact that I talked to something living in the wall of his house, or that the bat was there because it liked his wife's energy!
Being accepted without question felt amazing! My friends may not understand what I do, and I'm okay with that. It is clear that they love me regardless of whether or not they understand me.
The bat's info also provided an opportunity for my friend’s husband to be supportive of her in a new way, even getting her laughing over what had been a serious situation that was troubling her.
The feeling of my friends loving and accepting me just as I am will stay with me for a very long time.
That little bat did some big healing.
It brought me an opportunity to understand another level of my friends love and appreciation for me. It also brought my friend an understanding of how much she is loved and how much fun she is to be around.
Wherever that little bat is now, I'm sending it lots of love and gratitude. It changed our lives for the better.
